What a difference the right tools make!!

This morning, I went to JoAnns. Their quilting tools were 50% off. I bought a 6.5 x 24.5 inch ruler and new blades for my rotary cutter. WOW -- it made a HUGE difference. Now I can cut strips and squares accurately. I had been using a 4 x 18" ruler, and it just wasn't big enough to work with. I have struggled with quilting because the desire has been there, but the ability to cut neatly has not been there. Now I can do it!! The possibilities are endless!! I can even cut my own 2.5 inch strips to make my own jelly rolls with ease!! I've been playing this afternoon and cutting up scraps into 5" charm squares too. Oh how fun this is!! I can cut and cut and cut!!!

  1. Gosh, I missed seeing Joanns had quilting tools 50% off. That's when I usually treat myself. I bought some stuff by Omnigrid called InvisiGrip. You cut it 1/4" smaller than the ruler, using the rotary cutter. Peel off the paper and it static sticks to the bottom side of the ruler. It keeps rulers from sliding as bad. Hey, maybe the sale will still be on tomorrow since it's President's Day...will have to call and check it out. Loved hearing about the Amish School and H and J trying to get you back to the car afraid you'd get in trouble. I enjoy the pictures and hearing about your outings on the 'backroads' where the Amish are out and about. I love reading the books by Wanda Brunstetter and Beverly Lewis.

  2. Hi Connie, I just happened into your blog thru Quilt Bloggers, I hope you don't mind. I am a central PA gal and we also have many Amish living in our area, I am blessed with being surrounded by Amish farms, and have many chances to see and wave to them as they pass by my driveway on weekends! Please feel free to stop by my blog anytime you wish, I would love to hear from you!
